Have you ever looked around a restaurant, a store, or billboard? Have you ever noticed that your community is not represented in the very places that you spend your money and time? Imagery is vital especially to our children.
The people shown on these media outlets are suppose to be the status quo and are acceptable. Shouldn't we represent our own communities? When you walk into a store in your community shouldn't you see people that look like you? What does this kind of imagery tell our young children? Strive to be like her or to look like him because this is what the world says is beautiful and acceptable. This is part of the demise of our beautiful and perfect skin color! The variations of color in our community should be celebrated. One way to do this is to put our own in the very stores that we patronize. If we don't own them, they are in our communities and should still show our faces.
Just a little something to think about!!!!
